Default Recycling at the supermarket checkout

One recycling idea I heard recently that I thought was really good, is what many supermarkets in Germany do, instead on taking the excess packaging many items have away with you, there’s recycling bins at the check outs, so you can remove the excess packaging and dispose of it for recycling before you even leave the store, how cool is that! Maybe we should all be asking our supermarkets why they are not doing the same.

Some supermarkets in the UK have started to charge for carrier bags, which has led to an increase in people bringing their own bags to the supermarket so they don't have to keep paying for plastic bags, this obviously reduces the amount of plastic bags used and littered.

Some of our supermarkets do something similar. They will still give you a plastic bag if needed, but many people have opted to purchase "green" reuseable bags. These bags are made of a spun polypropylene material, so they are really durable, but light weight, and you can "recycle, and re-use" as many times as you wish. The idea is all the same, which is to reduce our carbon imprint, but the many ideas of how to accomplish this are so interesting!

That would create so many man-hours for the store employees, they'd have to go through it all to make sure the right things were in there and then get it picked up. There'd also be a lot to pick up off the floor! Our store has a bin to bring back the plastic bags to recycle.
