I was just wondering, why is recycling important? What’s the harm in using the earth’s resources? If we use a tree to make paper, surely we can plant another to replace it. What’s the big deal?

Well recycling is important because, the rate at which we are consuming the earth’s resources is unsustainable, if we carry on at the rate were going soon we will run out. Sure if we replace trees at the rate at which we use them, we may be okay. But that’s not what’s happening at the moment. Also other resources like oil that’s used to produce plastic cannot be replaced.
Recycling also saves energy, most items we recycle use allot less energy than it does to produce a new one. In a world with a potential energy crisis, saving energy is important.
It saves money as you don’t have the cost of disposing of waste, don’t have the cost of producing a new one and save energy.
It also takes care of the problem of how to dispose of things after we have used them. Many items we throw away are not biodegradable. So we will end up with huge landfills with materials that won’t decompose.
This is great, I used that site to find my local recycling drop off also.
Just remember that recycle is the last word in the mantra, first Reduce, then Reuse and the last thing you do is Recycle.
Recycling takes a lot of resources and energy, so that is why we need to reduce and reuse first. Yay
great job on setting it up, WTG
We can plant but we don't do thatyou see every day thousands of trees are used but few are planted back.
recycling is important since it is environment friendly.it saves on carbon emission.
Saving energy, saving land space, saving money, creating new jobs, reducing air and water pollution and preserving habitat for wildlife. That’s why recycling is important and you should take a closer look at your life and how your recycle materials used in your daily life.
You make a great point. However, if you don't recycle, the waste may kill living space on earth so you can't replace the tree.
