Default Finding reasons to quit marijuana

Hey guys, I'm really glad to have found a forum to share/discuss these issues, as they have been bother me lately. I have been a chronic user since the end of high school up until last week, which is about 6 years. I've been weening myself down to a limited use the past 2 months, and I finally quit cold turkey last week.

I suppose my problem has been in finding a firm reason to stop for good. I do not wish to offend anyone, and I know that addiction affects everyone differently, but part of me still feels that marijuana and it's high aren't all bad.

I finally decided to quit because I stopped living with friends and I am living with my grandparents; the guilt of getting high at my grandparents house out weighed the positive mood affects it would bring me.

And truthfully it wasn't just the move in with my grandparents that prompted the quitting; I have been wrestling with the idea for sometime, the move in was sort of the straw that broke the camels back.

Pot used to be the most fun thing I could think of, and I guess it was that realization that scared me the most. I know I would rather be the kind of person that has a joint after work than a drink, but I don't know if I can control my addiction to that point, and part of me believes that even that amount of smoking is bad for my general outlook on life.

I wanted to know if any of you guys have struck a balance between smoking and not smoking, and being productive without feeling overwhelmed by life stresses.

Thank you all by the way, just reading some of these threads has helped me get through another night UN-stoned!

You`ve done the hardest part already, dont un-do it and have to start all over again.
No need to look for reasons to/not to smoke.Think of it this way ,your health is your wealth. Can you imagin 20/30 years down the line ,still smoking, still feeling guilty having to hide it from people, coughing and weezing..

    Hope all is well.

dude you wont feel this emotional about it in about 2 weeks or maybe a month. when you stop smoking, your mood is rocky to say the least. it took me a couple times of stopping to realize this. you literaly think your going nuts. snapping at people, getting angry at dumb shit, being EXTREMELY EMOTIONAL, its like being a woman. Another feeling you get is hopelessness. You have the thought of, if i quit, WTF AM I GOING TO DO. that lasts about 2 weeks until you start enjoying things that you thought where dull when you wherent stoned. when i stopped, i hated everyone, hated doing anything and life just felt hopeless. quitting is not very hard in my opinion, whats hard is going through the 1 or 2 months of craziness that follows. I quit about a month ago and my sleep is still ****ed up, but my mood is now normal and i have motivation to actually do shit. Being sober for me is amazing. i cant stand relying on a drug to feel good or be entertained. stick with it and dont think about weed. Your story and mine are similar, i used to love getting high, but towards the end, when i got high i would just be ashamed that i had smoked at my moms house and wasted my money on somthing so stupid. IT KILLED MY HIGH. getting high became depressing to me and thats what it sounds like your going through. That tells me that your going to stop and that should give you hope because once that feeling starts it only gets worse. KEEP IT UP, DONT GIVE IN! everytime you get high think about your grand parents. good luck man

The thing is when you are using it can sometime be hard to see all the reasons why it would be best to quit, although there are usually far more than you think but it’s just that sometimes you have become so used to things being the way they are that it has just become normal for you. It’s often not until you do actually quit and get over the initial unpleasant bit that you begin to realise just how good life clean and sober can actually be and how much better off you are without it but like I say it can sometimes be hard to see that when you are still using.

How about you try and write yourself a list of all the reasons you can think of and see how many you can add to it, really spend some time on it and try and get every single one that you can, you can even share it with us if you like , then when you feel you need motivation you can look at this list and hopefully it should spur you on.

    All the best,
