Default Quitting pot - what should my first step be?

    Hi
I'm 24 and have been smoking pot since I was 14. It was just an accepted thing in my home growing up, my Dad did it and I was allowed to smoke in my room. Even then I wanted to quit and I defiantly didn't see myself smoking for the rest of my life. I've let many opportunity’s, including university, pass me by because of a pot induced lack of motivation and that makes me very sad. At this point in my life I am determine to quit but have been successful only for short periods of time. I was able to quit for the longest when I was pregnant and had the support of my husband but then things just went back to the way they were. Since then I’ve realized there are two main things that continue to hamper my progress: my husband who smokes pot, is convinced it's a miracle cure-all and gets it for free from his Dad ( a legal grower) and the mentality on Vancouver island, where I live, that pot is not a big deal. I know this isn't true but when I'm having a craving it's just too easy to buy into. I don't know what to do I love my husband but I also have a daughter I have to think of too. I feel NA is for harder drugs is this true? does anyone have tips on seeking help or maybe a similar situation to mine where you found a solution?

    Dear Guest,
Na doesn't care what drugs you use, from alcohol to heroin. There are plenty of people in NA that just smoke or smoked pot. All you need is the desire to stop using drugs and you are welcome..

depending on where you live, there may be a MA group which is much better than NA. If there are no meetings in your areas, they also have web meetings and phone meetings. I went to them twice a week for my first few months clean. http://www.marijuana-anonymous.org/

first step is not buying that weed. next step is preparing for what is going to happen. your gunna go nuts, snapping at ppl, being emotional and your sleep will become terrible. then you just have to know that it goes away. everytime you think about weed from then on, you will think about how crazy you will be if you smoke that shit and you wont ever want to be around it again.

To me and this is just me personally, aside from things like throwing your stash and kit away and all that kind of thing, first and foremost you really have to want to quit and want it bad, if you don’t quite feel you want it bad enough then the first thing to do is to try and work on this and to try and think of all the reasons you want to quit, write them down and spend some time on it just so you know you have got every reason you can think of, once you get going you will probably find there are more than you thought. This list will then also be useful for when you feel like you are wanting to relapse as you can use it to remind yourself exactly why it was that you wanted to quit and it will re-motivate you to do so.

    All the best,
