    Does anyone know how long MJ really stays in your system after you quit? I was a long time smoker, more than 30 years, roughly 5-8x a day. I live in a small town in the middle of nowhere..the biggest store is Walmart..and every employer "tests". How long should I plan on before attempting to get a job? I have always been a professional and it would be so humiliating to test dirty, plus the whole town would hear about it.

    Hi DesertGirl it takes 3 weeks at least to get a clear test if you drink a lot of water a few hours before it can help like you i smoked 24/7 for well over 30 years i have been clean for six months now and it is still a real battle so good luck with your battle. Dale.

    Default Day 36 cold turkey

    First time to post on this site...but i've been reading other's post for a couple of weeks now. A little background of my smoking history is smoking pretty much everyday for around 5 years. Smoking for me was just something fun to do with friends, and as time went on i found myself smoking everyday, looking forward until i was done with school or work so i could go home and smoke. I wouldnt say i used it as an escape or to withdrawl, it never hindered my social or school responsibilites. So now the reason i quit...I really dont know..I just felt why not, I've told myself before that i'd stop smoking everyday just for the weekends and i could never do it. So i just decided to one day stop completely and then a couple days later the withdrawl symptoms came, and that really made me want to stop. It seems like I have been experiencing very similar symptoms as alot of people have. When first quitting I didnt start experiencing any symptoms until 2 days. Those were at first just feelings of anxiety, which was very new for me..i've never been a really anxious person. Then came the insomnia, which lasted for about 2 weeks, and still one or two nights of the week i may still get a nite where i cant really sleep well. My mind would just race, thinking about everything at once it seemed like, that really bothered me. Like others on here i feel like the WORST of my symptoms have gotten better over a month. But it just bothers me now that iam not completely better...Recently i've been feeling kinda depressed and just really dont want to do anything, and i guess just a feeling of parnoid, like constantly questioning my mental health. I keep on thinking maybe i will never be completely better.

    Hi sunflower and welcome to the forum.

    The symptoms you have and are experiencing are perfectly normal. Symptoms like anxiety and insomnia are very common, the symptoms can vary from person to person and can come and go at different times, some may kick in sooner and some may kick in later. The symptoms of paranoia and depression are very common too and usually pass but it can take some time, some people find that symptoms like depression can last for a good few months after they quit maybe even longer, there are no exact rules every case can be extremely different, but whether it’s sooner or later given time most people do feel better.

    So hang in there mate I think things will improve in time, take care, thanks for sharing your story and please keep us posted on how it goes.

    Default What should I expect?

    Hi all, new to this forum. I've been reading alot of posts about quitting and withdrawal and quitting as I am planning to quit myself. However I've never spokento somebody who has quit and am now scared as he'll of these possible withdrawal symptoms. I'll give you a short run down of my situation;
    I have smoked every single day for 2.5 years, morning, noon and night. Average about 5 jonts a day. I'm 23. I have a great job, I'm a star employee. I have alot of friends, most who don't smoke or only socially. I never experience paranoia or anxiety. My social circle, if anything has widened, I have improved my work 100%, my band has had some success, really life has been quite kind. The reasons I want to quit; my memory which was alwas average is just terrible now; forgettig things from hours before, asking people the same questions 3 times etc. I also have been on a downward slope of depression for about the past year. I had alot of hArd personal issues this year and found myself using pot to get away from reality as opposed to pure enjoyment. I am now at the point where I find it difficult to enjoy life at all. No matter what I'm doing. Pot nver makes it feel better. I'm strtig to think it's the cause. Imjust numb, every day. I feel nothing. Like I'm watching my life on television.
    Anyway I'm babbling but my quesion is; will I get these withdrawal symptoms?sleeplessness, night sweats, messed up dreams etc? I've been off it for a max of two days at a time, and felt nothing but great from giving my lungs a rest. I'm afraid I don't care enough about my life or myself to quit. And now with word of these symptoms.... I'm truly petrified (hey at least I feel something.)
    help!

    Default Quitting after 7 years

    I smoked every day for 7 years. First thing i did when i opend my eyes in the morning was getting a hit from the bong. I realy recomend to eat loads of food a few days before quitting. It helps alot as most peoples can't eat and even vometing and feeling sick the first 2-3 days.. as I did. The body need someting before you quit and go in to withdrawal. My symptoms was some anxiety, insomnia and strange dreams for about 2 weeks, mood changes got better after 3 weeks and after 4 weeks i feel alot better... I've been clean for 2 months now and my memory is getting back to normal. I can't remember the last 5 years thoug.. It's all messy:/
