What do you think your life will be like after addiction? This is the question I keep asking myself when I need to remember why I need treatment. These are the things I try to remember when I am feeling really down on myself.

You have to focus on those people who have never been addicted and make yourself believe that they are living perfectly happy lives. They don't miss the drink or the drugs because their body doesn't need them. You will eventually be like them.

But there are so many things that might sound small that you will be amazed you lived without. The big thing is that you will realize how much your addiction controlled you. You will look at how much of your life revolved around your addiction, and you will be so glad that you broke free and and are now longer a slave to the drinking or drugging.

I agree that even the little things can suddenly feel amazing when you aren't on drugs or drinking. I think something as simple as being able to talk to family members or be able to leave the house without scheduling things around the next time you can get high.

Different. It's nice not being reliant on anything. It is a sense of freedom, not that it is easy but it is a relief and so worth it!

One of the worst thing regarding addiction is that if some one is addicted to a particular drug then the person tends to be out of senses. Even if you are thinking that you are all right and your body is working fine but it wont be so therefore one should never get addicted to any of the drugs.

I was afraid that life was going to be completely boring and dreadful after getting clean and sober. The reason is because my only source of happiness was drugs and alcohol. What I have found in recovery is that real, genuine contentedness and joy was never achieved while getting drunk and loaded. I have found a sense of peace and serenity while living clean and sober in which I never envisioned. I am able to live life to the fullest and be a part of the world rather than have the negative impact on life that I used to have.

first why we get addict there are many problem but main reason I think that is we are confused what we have to do with our life and what not. When its start getting heart more we start thinking to leave it we have so many other ways to be relax and get focused on many more other things rather then hurting our self or every ones who love us.

Very different. At first it doesn't feel like things are any better. Going through the acute withdrawals the first couple of weeks then having to deal with the post acute withdrawals for months. Going out to dinner, movies, clubs, etc you think of your old ways for having fun. Smoke, drink, maybe take some illegal drugs. It seriously takes months to get use to.

For me getting sober from smoking and drugs was not just quitting, it was a complete change of life. I had to cut all contact with old friends who were still involved in my past addictions and I am currently starting over. Right now it's just my girlfriend and I. We cook dinner together every night. Always something healthy like spaghetti squash or pastaless lasagna or something just healthy. We got gym memberships so after work we go straight to the gym to work out. Just those two things right there make getting past the addiction easy and we are bettering ourselves as we do it. We most of our money. The money that I normally would find myself spending on my addiction I put into savings. Make plans to go out twice a month to say the beach to walk, maybe get dinner a couple times a month but in this time of beating addiction and the post acute withdrawals its a very good time to get into shape, eat healthy and save some money because when you come out on the other side you will be looking great, feeling great and have money saved.

But remember even one drink, one puff, or whatever your addiction is takes you back to step one.
I am not an alcoholic but I refuse to drink anything when I am in my recovery stage still (3-24 months it can take. Look up post acute withdrawal syndrome). Anything that alters my state of mind, even caffeine, I have cut completely out of my diet. My body needs to recover on its own not with supplements (a multivitamin should be taken everyday along with a fishoil supplement)
