Children on Pot

I am 14 and have been smoking since i was 10, but my boyfriend is VERY against it.....He says i have to quit, But HOW the hell am i supposed to quit when i live in a house of stoners... both my perents smoke, HEAVILY... and they grow weed in our basment.... how am i supossed to quit when i live like that... all i wanna do right now is be high... like my parents... Help?

Dear Kity Kat,
You seem very smart. Your asking for help, that's the first step...
Smoking pot stops you from wanting to better yourself. It gives you a fake sense of how things really are. It stops you from feeling things that you need to feel in order to grow in maturity. It is bad for your memory and IS addictive.
I could go on and on, but I think you get what I'm saying...
There are so many reasons not to smoke pot. If you want a happy, healthy, and successful future the best thing you can do is quit.
Lead by example in your house. Tell your parents that you are quitting and don't want the smoking around you. Tell them it's not fair to put you around second hand smoke and drugs. I'm sure they do love you very much. Tell them that you want a future.

I think you should hang to that guy first of all. Secondly I think if you do quit and begin to look around your living situation you'll realize that you want better for yourself and your children someday. I think you can do it. It sounds like you have the support you need-at least outside of the house.

It sounds like this is a good guy who wants you to have a good life. I'm sorry that your parents are having this influence on you. I think the only thing to do is be strong and see a therapist about it. Even if it's a counselor at school. You don't even have to tell them about your parents if you don't feel safe. Just do that for yourself.

Good for you for realizing that you need to quit. I am sure it will be hard, but it is worth doing.

My suggestion with your parents is to approach them without judgment, if you can. Let them know that you want to quit, that you want to try living without getting high. Just don't make it about THEM being wrong. Hopefully they want what is best for you and will try to support you in your efforts.

Geez that is a tough one, I have heard some difficult situations in my time but that is real tricky, I think I also agree with Robin I think you need to try and have a serious talk with your family and see if they are prepared to make at least some concessions to help you achieve your goal, if they aren’t then at the end of the day the reality is they are actually seriously failing you as parents and the law is on your side, I know you perhaps don’t want to have to but you may have to remind them of this but hopefully it won’t come to that, hopefully they will meet you in the middle.
