I'd have to say that I believe both of these words to mean the same thing. If you are dependant on something it means that you cannot live without it and this is also what addiction is. You have to learn to live without it and that's not easy.
I think it's mainly just semantics. Dependence is a more politically correct term than addiction which is because it sounds less severe. Not a good thing because an addict is an addict and that's how they need to see themselves to get help.
