Which is the worst addiction do you think? I tried drink instead of cannabis and it worked. I don't need to smoke now but I drink quite a bit instead!

I think it is bad to be addicted to anything that prevents you from enjoying life. There are serious health issues with both addictions, and they are equally as scary! Both addictions can get you in trouble with the law, ruin relationships, and cause you to lose employment. With that being said, I almost think alcohol is worse because it's legal and you can get it anywhere, and it's acceptable and almost encouraged for you to use it and purchase it.

In my personal opinion, in all honesty probably alcohol as it is physically a far more addictive drug, although that’s not to say that marijuana has no potential for physical addiction at all, you only have to read some of the experiences here to see that some people do experience some degree of physical addiction which you wouldn’t with a psychological addiction like shopping or gambling. And just because alcohol addiction is worse it still doesn’t make being addicted to marijuana a good thing, I don’t think any drug addiction is a good thing, but all this aside to be honest although they can both be addictions they are two fairly different types of addictions, although there are a lot of similarities as there are with all addictions there are a fair few differences too, when you say “worse” you have to remember that this is a very generalised way to view the situation, the can both affect different types of things, for example alcohol may be worse for the liver but smoking marijuana worse for the lungs, alcohol maybe worse for going out and getting into arguments, marijuana may be worse for being reclusive and avoiding the world depending what type of user you are of course, which is something else you should not over look as we can all react to these sorts of drugs differently, some may find marijuana is worse for their mental health than drinking, some may get hooked on marijuana but not drink perhaps because they don’t really like it as much or vice versa, etc, etc, the point is there is really no black or white, all you can do is look at how you are reacting to it as an individual, if you can drink without it becoming a problem then fine, if you can use marijuana without it becoming a problem then fine, from my experience people often use arguments like alcohol being worse than marijuana to justify the use of the marijuana, but at the end of the day you could do that with almost anything, you can usually find something that’s worse.

By the sound of it if you are finding that you either have to drink or smoke then perhaps you have a problem with both, or with just being clean in general, perhaps you would use anything to fill the place of the other, maybe it’s just being clean that you can’t handle. My advice would be to try and go without using anything for while, the best option is not to have to use either.

    All the best,

I have the same strategy when I wanted to get rid of marijuana. I drink more so that I could forget about the weed. The problem with me is that when I drink then that is the best time to smoke weed as well.

My friends do this all the time so it will be hard for me to quit if I'm with them. I want to quit but I also don't want to lose my friends. What should I do?

I also seem to do the same thing - I feel that the anxiety of quitting smoking is much easier to handle if I have a few drinks, and it sure helps to get to sleep. For me, I don't think this is addiction, just using alcohol to get over the worst parts of withdrawal. Sometimes I then "use"the alcohol a bit too much to fill in the empty gap in my life, but then again , once, after the intial few days, I decided to go completely clean for a few weeks, and didn't find it too hard actually.

I guess it just depends on which substance is ruining your life - an alcoholic will think alcohol addiction is the worst, a marijuana addict will think it is the worst, and a gambling addict will say that gambling is the very wost addiction in the world. Whatever you're addicted to is the worst for you - because it has such a hold on you.

Many people cope with quitting an addiction by finding another addiction. I've seen a lot of alcoholics start smoking cigarettes and drinking caffeine non-stop. I think that honestly, alcohol is a worse addiction but everybody has their own level of addiction.

    Default Alcohol

I hate it when people say a cannabis addiction is worse for your mind than alcoholism. Alcoholism is the loneliness, most tortuous, self loathing, prison like state of mind you can have. I got out early, others don't. Yeah any addiction isbad but alcohol is certainly worse than cannabis especially in its most extreme form - shaking, hallucinating, convulsions, palpitations, panic attacks etc when the alcoholic doesnt have a drink.

Alcohol is one of the most commonly used drugs, it is also very destructive, more so than cannabis IMHO.

    Depends.

I've drunk for years with huge pauses and never became addicted from. Lat time it was two years, every day. I just stopped without problems.
I've sniffed ketamine 7 months daily, stopped one day without one problem.
I've smoked MJ daily for 6-7 months, five months now since I've stopped and still having some problems .

You figure it out. Try what is not addictive for you. For me it was MJ because I like it way more that everything else. Except cocaine, but I did not had the money for that .
