Default Have you ever considered therapy?

It has been suggested to me to seek out a psychologist and/or therapist for the treatment of my social anxiety. I'm of the opinion that talking about anxiety over and over again only reinforces anxiety and may depress us further. We need good, concrete solutions to all the practical problems that social anxiety causes in our daily lives. Does anyone here seriously consider it, or have had any success?

It sounds like what you need is the right therapist. Some therapists use the technique of talking everything out, but others are more solution-oriented. If you could find someone with a short-term, dynamic approach who would help you focus on practical skills, it sounds like it might work well for you. A good place to start might be a licensed clinical social worker.

I've been considering therapy and I have been to a therapist before. I feel like I need to see somebody who can prescribe medication though, because the people I have seen have only discussed issues. I feel like I've analyzed myself so much in my head it's not always good for me to talk about it over and over again. Maybe I'll go back though.

I know what you mean. Overthinking things in my own head is bad enough; I don't need to bring a professional in on my mindspace unless there are clear expectations set from the first meeting. All things considering, I might try it.

I was in therapy for two year along with medication. It did help to some extent, but I'm aloof by nature so it always seems to everyone like I don't want anything to do with them. I live by myself so I do OK for the most part.
