    Default 6 days today

Hi all,I am 34 and have been using since my last year at high school. That makes it 18 years.F*** to sit here and say that out loud is shocking.I have never felt I had A Problem. Its only a recreational thing I did.It expanded my mind, made me appreciate music and bought my friends and I closer.I Thought.
While I watched my friends progress with thier lives, start families and achieve better jobs I could still not see what I was doing was stopping me achieve all the things they were achieving. They were uncool, growing old too soon.I probably would never stop using cause I was allways happy with my life and what I was doing.Slowly contact with these friends that I thought were uncool dwindled and my group of friends was reduced to a handful of smokers that I could relate to.Some of these friends quit, moved on,had families of their own.Suddenly I realised even some of these friends could not be around me.Thier problem I thought. My friends that burnt and I were still the cool ones.Jobs came and went along with partners I had.Not the jobs for me,or the right partners. Then last October a relationship of 3 years ended and I spiralled into a world of isolation.Christmas came and went like it didnt exsist and I became unable to carry out my job to a satisfactory level and I was pushed out because of my lack of dedication. No money,no partner and a family fed up with dealing with my mood swings and general bad attitude meant I spiralled even further. With no money I began stealing to pay for my habit. Then at the end of May I reached rock bottom.I am very lucky and after a plea to my parents to help, they came and rescued me from certain disaster. It has been 6 days now.I am starting to see the changes allready.A clearer more positive perspective of my life.I can now see a positve path that my life can take.A reason for being here. The nasty, lying, angry person that I was.I am lucky to have a forgiving family. It is early days but I dont want to use ever again, and I plan to never use again.EVER..!!!For those that are considering to quit, this is the first step to changing your life.To be a better person. To achieve what others around you are achieving.I have wasted years and 10s of thousands of pounds on something that was close to destroying me.My dad once told me that you have to give up smoking one day, cause eventually it will kill you.Might aswell do it today. He was right and I wish I had listerned to him when I was in my teens.I look forward to speaking to other members here.I still need help, as I say it is early days and Im sure I have some tough times ahead.I am here to tell my story, for support and help others with their addiction.Take care...Seph

    Hi Seph,

Congratualtions on six days thats great keep it up!
Its funny how addicts of other drugs see cannabis as 'just cannabis'. Its no less of an addiction and alot of peoples circumstances reflect that. We dont choose to be addicted for years and years when we smoke that first joint. Its a trap thats sprung when we first smoke it but its to subtle to realise. We think to ourselves 'i could never get addicted to this!' Its not our fault we get addicted.

I also watched all my friends going on to get married and promoted at work etc, knowing that my life was/is just passing me by. But its important to remember that its never to late to change and it IS possible to quit for good so hang in there, it will get easier. Im on day one (again) and have given up many times before only to get hooked again and if ive learnt one thing its that theres no such thing as one joint. Good luck m8

    Default Goodtimes ahead

Hi Seph every thing you have said is so true i am realy glad you have taken this step to get off the drugs, like you i am so determined never to go back but believe me it is hardest thing i have ever done. The days are not to bad but the nights are the worst the insomnia realy takes its toll and headaches just don't give up. I know it's the best thing we can do for ourselves it is day 31 for me but i know there is better times just around the corner. Please don't let me put you off stay strong taking the first step was realy the hardest for me too the pain i can handle all the best Dale.

    Dale,
Congratulations on coming so far with quiting,I am looking forward to saying Im on day 31,two months, two years etc without it.Life can be such a battle as it is and pot is not something that makes it any easier even though at certain stages and probably generally I thought it was helping me with the stresses of life.Part of my problem was that I ended up using heavily to mask the fact that my life had so many short falls because of smoking.A viscious circle.Wanting to hide from the truth.I am lucky and I have support from my family who I am staying with.I know not everyone has this luxury.I hope to be here for others who dont.As I have read so many times, this is not viewed as a serious problem, but to those in this situation it is a desperate one.If someone had asked me when I was say 18 I would be here at 34 I would have laughed at them.None of us plan this, expect this.It just seems to happen.Good luck..

    Thumbs up

    Hi seph welcome.

Well done on your decision to quit. It is sad how life can leave you behind when you use drugs, I felt exactly the same. I spent thousands too, but it cost me a lot more than just money in the end. I am glad you are seeing the benefit of quitting already, things can start to improve quite quickly.

Thanks for telling your story I am sure it will help others, we are honoured you have chosen to share it with us.

Take care and please keep us posted on how it goes.

    Good luck!

Default aiming for the future will get u through a sh'it present

hey dude-i been there too-u'v made the right choice-and doing so well-its too easy to ponder and worry about the past-but its a bit pointless and soul destroying-focus on the future-sometimes we have to imagine wat its like on around the bend in the road rather than wats right in friont of us-accept the past dude and aim for the future-and good luck-
